It’s Not Supposed to be This Way
By Lysa TerKeurst
This book hit home! Lysa is so real and transparent about the disappointments and challenges she’s faced. What’s so incredible about this book is that Lysa is in the midst of the disappointing events as she’s writing Its Not Supposed To Be This Way. When I listened to this audiobook, I had just come through the most challenging season of my life. I can see how listening to this in the midst of heartache would be powerful and encouraging to press on in your own journey. Knowing that someone else is experiencing hardships at the same time as your challenges and sharing their journey to overcome is comforting and can give the encouragement needed to be faithful and trust God regardless of the circumstances. Listening to this audiobook following the challenges in my own life has given me more appreciation for the learning experiences and how I’ve grown through this time, grown as an individual, and grown in my relationship with God. The addition Lysa gives and the interview at the end of the audiobook really brought everything together for me and makes me want to start at the beginning and listen to it all over again.
My favorite analogies she uses are about the Potter making beautiful pieces out of dust. And the imagery she gives when talking about the serpent and snakes today is truly amazing. Oh, and for all my health professionals out there (if you’re anti vaccine, just skip right over this last part)… she even makes an analogy to the importance of vaccinations. Lysa, you are my girl! 😉
Brave Love
By Lisa Leonard
Brave love is a beautiful story to listen to and a brave way to get to know Lisa Leonard. I mostly use the Libby app and get my audiobooks from the library- which is great because I get to listen to audiobooks for free, but I often have to wait awhile for the books to be available. I put a hold on this book in March, and didn’t get it until September! And after such a long wait, this book did not disappoint! Lisa has a very comforting voice and is so easy to listen to and adore. Not only did I enjoy learning about Lisa’s story, but she spoke to my heart.
I, like so many others, desperately want to fit in and be liked, and Lisa speaks to the women in this space. I think any new mom should listen to this audiobook as I’m sure it resonates with all new moms. I do not have children, and I still felt myself relating to many aspects of her journey as a new mom. And it taught me truths to remember for the day I am a mom. Lisa has such a unique story and shares the amazing power of God in our lives. This is definitely one to listen to!
When Life Gives You Lululemons
By Lauren Weisberger
I’m not going to lie, the only reason I picked up this book is because it has Lululemon in the title! It intrigued me and I hoped I would love it as much as I love my Lululemons! You will see a pattern with the types of books I listen to- the majority are topics on personal improvement. They do a great job of keeping my attention and I feel productive when I listen to them. But every now and then I’m drawn to a novel. And when it has Lululemon in the title, how can you not want to read it?
I learned that this book is titled for the description of the characters and their lifestyle in the high end world. It is the sequal to The Devil Wears Prada. Three women come together using each of their own talents and expertise to bring down one common enemy. I kept waiting for the book to catch my attention, but it left me wanting more. If you enjoy a good novel with many twists in the plot to keep you guessing, you may enjoy this one, but I think I’ll stick to my “self help” books for awhile!
